To use your MuteMail account you need to create a new profile in your email software, and configure it. While creating a new profile you will be able to enter the details (like name, organization, etc.). These details will be shown in your message; your recipient will see them. You can modify the details the way it suits you most.
To finish setup you would need to configure Incoming/Outgoing server options.
1. Sending Mail
Outgoing mail (SMTP) server (required). To send email you need to set SMTP (outgoing) server as mutemail.com
SMTP Authentication (required). Use your MuteMail email address as login name (yourname@mutemail.com for example), and your MuteMail password you chose during signup process. Please note, that you would not be able to send email if your email software does not support SMTP authentication. Please see the list of supported mail clients below.
SMTP SSL or TLS Encryption (optional). This option will make all traffic between your mail software and our server encrypted while sending mail. If your email software supports SMTP encryption extension, please enable it. If your software does not support encryption you will be able to send emails, but they will not be snoop-proof. If the encryption is of prime importance for you, you may wish to use Netscape Communicator, Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express.
Alternate SMTP port (optional). It may be of use if your ISP blocks standard SMTP port. Alternative SMTP port number is 25002 (25001 for MS Outlook/Outlook Express with SMTP SSL or TLS Encryption option enabled). If you are not sure whether your ISP blocks standard port or not, then do not change this option. If you can't find
this option in your mail software configuration try to append ":25002" to the server name. You would use "mutemail.com:25002" instead of "mutemail.com". This works fine with Netscape Messenger and MS Outlook.

2. Receiving Mail.
To configure your software to receive email messages you need to choose one of the protocols available. Available options are POP3 or IMAP4.
POP3 (Post Office Protocol, version 3) - recommended
If you primarily use one computer both to read and write your emails, POP3 is for you. POP3 clients usually require you to download all your email before reading it. All your email messages are stored on your local computer after the download, so you can access them and store them, as you like without connecting to the server again. To use POP3 you need to select this protocol in your email software and configure it as follows:
Incoming mail (POP3) server (required). Set it as mutemail.com
Username and password (required). Use your MuteMail email address as username (yourname@mutemail.com for example), and your MuteMail password you chose during signup process.
Use SSL/secure connection (optional). If you check this box, then all traffic between your mail software and our server will be encrypted while you are checking mail.
Encrypted Logon (optional). You can check this box to make password authentication more secure. This option would increase security if you do not use SSL/secure connection as described above.
IMAP4 (Internet Mail Access Protocol, version 4) - this option is for advanced users.
IMAP works really well when you use multiple computers to read your email. You can store your email on the server in "folders" for later retrieval and you can easily get them again from another computer. You will get a listing of messages in each "folder" and download messages only if you wish to read them. This means that you would only download what you need to. To use IMAP4 you need to select this protocol in your email software and configure it as follows:
Incoming mail (IMAP4) server (required). Set it as mutemail.com
Username and password (required). Use your MuteMail email address as username
(yourname@mutemail.com for example), and your MuteMail password you chose during signup process.
Root folder path/Personal Namespace (required). Must be "INBOX" ("INBOX." for Netscape, do not forget the trailing period)
Use SSL/secure connection (optional). If you check this box, this will make all traffic between your mail software and our server encrypted while you are checking mail.
Encrypted Logon (optional). You can check this box to make password authentication more secure. This option would increase security if you do not use SSL/secure connection as described above.
